Kaylin Clingensmith is a photographic artist based in New Castle, PA. Her work delves into the complex intersections of collage and photography through a distinctly feminine lens. With a deep commitment to visual storytelling, her art aims to capture and represent a moment in time. Kaylin’s process involves the creation of visceral, multi-layered collage works that combine her photographs, tactile objects such as fibers and pieces of nature, and carefully manipulated light and shadows to convey a familiar narrative, highlighting experiences that are intentionally overlooked. These carefully constructed compositions are then rephotographed and digitally altered multiple times, a technique that allows the fragmented and distorted imagery to mirror the disorienting and confusing effects of memory and perception. Through this method, Kaylin’s work encourages viewers to confront the unspoken aspects of human experience, inviting them to challenge their assumptions and interpret the hidden truths behind the visual surface in her work and reality.

Kaylin is enrolled at SCAD, pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Photography. Her photomontages have been exhibited in galleries throughout western Pennsylvania. She was also selected for Photo Lucida’s Critical Mass Top 200 in 2024. Kaylin earned her bachelor’s degree in fine art from Slippery Rock University, where she also received certification to teach K-12. In addition to her work as a practicing artist, Kaylin is passionate about sharing her love for visual arts through education. She has taught photography and other art courses across a variety of settings, including public, charter, and online schools, working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
